Spotted on the streets of Ann Arbor in between classes, I stopped Natalie to comment on what caught my eye: her canary yellow coat. Skrillex came up with a song for Syndicate (the video game) and now it’s been lovingly remixed by Digitalism. I quote them in their experience of making this song:

“Syndicate is a game classic which is now being brought back to life. For us as electronic music lovers who grew up with games and love soundtracks, there was no way around re-interpreting the Syndicate theme! So what we did in our WWII bunker studio was imagine being in the game, creating a fast-paced atmosphere, turning all the compressors up and mixing classic soundtrack elements with techno. We wanted to make sure it sounds dangerous - et voila, here we go.”

I enjoy listening to Skrillex’s original but Digitalism has a place in my heart after discovering them a year ago on hypem with their track Blitz. Their remix for syndicate even seems more video game appropriate so check it out on Syndicate’s facebook page and then clicking on the side bar to Syndicate DJ Download to get both the Skrillex and Digitalism version. I can’t speak for the entire STS staff but, I often find that any adventure, expected or not, into the realm of psychedelia to be fruitful. I saw Thundercat with Flying Lotus a couple of months ago and honestly, these dudes are doing the shit that musicians are fantasizing about. Blurring the lines of live music and electronic production, Thundercat’s album “Golden Age of the Apocalypse” drops TOMORROW August 30th. Bass players every where are collectively jerking off.

VenoM bringing his unique West side flow over an East side classic - a dope formula with an ultra nostalgic type feel. Definitely unexpected to hear an up and comer spit to the classic “T.R.O.Y.” instrumental but it was done with taste and respect. True school. Keep an eye out.
